The ICO Museum is paying tribute to its origins with an exhibition showcasing part of the art collection that gave rise to the space. Running from 10 February to 10 May, the exhibition takes visitors on an essential journey through 20th-century art, revealing how the social, political and aesthetic changes of the time have influenced the languages of line and volume.
This exhibition brings together artworks by thirty-four creators, including sculptors and architects, created from the early 20th century up to the 1980s. Alongside the sculptures, the exhibition includes a selection of drawings that explore the artists' creative processes and establish a dialogue between the two artistic languages.
It covers from the early avant-garde movements of the 20th century, such as cubism - with artists like Julio González, Pablo Picasso and Juan Gris - to the present day, represented by artists such as Miquel Barceló and Susana Solano, including key figures in Spanish art like Carmen Laffón, Eduardo Chillida and Jorge Oteiza.
The exhibition allows us to understand the evolution of form, space and materials, from the fragility of paper to the force of sculptural matter.
